Adam Sandler biography





Adam's first brush with comedy was at age 17 when his brother encouraged him to go on stage spontaneously at a Boston comedy club, Until then comedy had never entered his mind as a profession, but after his first appereance, he was hooked. While still in college, he continued to perform regularly in comedy clubs and universities througout New York. During his freshman year, he snagged a recurring role as Theo Huxtable's friend Smitty on THE COSBY SHOW, Sandler further cut his comedy working the local comedy-club circuit in Los Angeles, Where he was discovered by DENNIS MILLER. Miller told SNL producer Lorne Michael's that the kid had no mean talent. The recommendation helped Sandler secure a spot on the show in 1990, primarily as a writer, but also as a performer. Before his first year was up, Sandler became a regular player of enormous popularity. With characters such as Cajun man, Iraqi Pete,Canteen Boy and Operaman. Herlihy Boy and the host of the Denise Show. Sandler also performed memorable impersonations of Axl Rose, Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen. In 1993, Sandler released his first album of comedy material,called "They're All Gonna Laugh At You!" Sandler immediatley went on to receive a Grammy Nomination, even as it made its unprecedented run up the charts, spending over 100 weeks on Billboard's charts alone. The album spawned the hit single "Lunchlady Land" as well as the popular "Buddy" while bringing back the "Thanksgiving Song" and showing the world "The BUffoon." Sandler's film career kicked into high gear, starting with small cameos in Shakes the Clown and in ConeHeads, followed by co-starring roles in Going Overboard, AirHeads and Mixed Nuts. Sandler began his starring role in Universal's Billy Madison, a box office smash that he co-wrote. Next up in the film arena for Sandler was his second Universal comedy, Happy Gilmore. Soon after, he co-starred with Damon Wayons in the action/comedy BulletProof. Next up was the romantic comedy The Wedding Singer with Drew Barrymore set in 1985. The WaterBoy was Sandler's next movie which was released in November of 1998 and grossed over $39 million it's opening weekend. His next release, Big Daddy, extended the winning streak, easily beating out the competition it's first weekend out at the box office with an estimated $41 million haul. Sandlers next movie Little Nicky is due out for realease in the fall of 2000.
